The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation fighter developed under the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program to create a unique successor that combines stealth and connectivity to a variety of aircraft types. Intended to replace the U.S. Navy's carrier-based F/A-18s, the F-35C features the Catapult Assisted TakeOff But Arrested Recovery (CATOBAR) system. Larger wings and stabilizers than other F-35 variants provide reduced landing speed, while the wingtips fold upward 90 degrees to save deck space. The F-35C's nose landing gear has a more robust structure and dual wheels for catapult-assisted takeoffs. The F-35C's specific landing hook provides braking and stopping in the tight deck space. After the F-35A and the F-35B, Tamiya offers us the opportunity to add to our collection the definitive 1/48 reproduction of the F-35C, the aircraft that will become an essential element of the US Navy's air power in the coming decades. • 1/48 scale kit to assemble and paint. • Shapes and features specific to the F-35C version with enlarged wings and stabilizers taken into account. • With the exception of the canopy and cargo hatches, all parts of the airframe are new. • Realistic reproduction of the radar wave absorbing surfaces (RAM) on the entire airframe. • The model can only be built in "parked" configuration with the following options: - Wingtips deployed or folded (parts interchangeable after assembly). - In-flight refueling boom deployed or retracted. - Deck hook hatch open or closed. - Canopy open or closed (parts interchangeable after assembly). - Weapons bay hatches open or closed.- Boarding ladder deployed or retracted.• Movable surfaces of leading and trailing edges lowered. Wheel chocks are provided.• F-35C-specific underwing weapons pylons and ventral gun pod.• Choice of mission configuration: stealth without external payloads (Stealth Mode), air-to-air (missile only) or heavy (Beast Mode) with underwing weapons and ventral gun.• Armament provided: AIM-9X Sidewinder x2, AIM-120C AMRAAM x2, GBU-12 Paveway II x4, GBU-31JDAM x2 and ventral gun pod.• Adhesive masks facilitate painting of the canopy.• Choice of six marking options, four for the US Navy and two for the US Marine Corps.• Reminder of the common features of Tamiya 1/48 F-35 kits: fully reproduced Y-shaped air veins, extremely detailed cockpit, landing gear bays, weapons bays, engine nozzle, seat Martin Baker US 16E ejectable and pilot figure with integrated HMD display helmet.
