Aircraft model P- 47D Bubble Top
The P-47 Thunderbolt was the largest, heaviest and most expensive aircraft, fighters in history to be powered by a single piston engine.
He was heavily armed with eight caliber.
50 machine guns, four per wing.
When fully loaded, the P-47 weighed up to eight tons, and in the ground attack roles these fighter-bombers could carry five-inch rockets or a large 2500-pound bomb load.
Based on the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp, the P-47 engine has been very effective as a short and medium escort fighter in high altitude air-to-air combat and, once dropped as a fighter- bomber.
The P -47 was one of the United States Army's major air forces (USAAF), World War II fighters, and served with other Allied air forces, France, Great Britain and Russia.
Mexican and Brazilian squadrons fighting alongside the United States were also equipped with the P-47.
The P-47D was the most produced version with 12,602 copies
produced.
Later models were equipped with "Bubble Top" canopies to improve rearward vision.
