The Italeri Bastogne 1944 1:72 Diorama Model Kit marks the 80th anniversary of one of World War II’s most significant battles. This complete kit allows hobbyists to build a detailed diorama that brings the winter of 1944 in the Ardennes to life.
This set does not highlight a single hero but rather the Allied and German soldiers involved. The included figures allow modelers to recreate everyday combat scenes with accurate uniforms and equipment.
Italeri is renowned for producing historical military model kits. The Bastogne 1944 diorama is part of its commemorative line, combining historical accuracy with modeling enjoyment.
Historical background
On December 16, 1944, the German army launched a major offensive through the dense forests of the Ardennes in Belgium, under the codename “Wacht am Rhein.” The town of Bastogne, a vital road junction and logistical hub, was one of the main objectives.
The small Belgian town and its surroundings were encircled by German forces, trapping a large number of American troops inside the pocket.
These troops resisted for many days against repeated enemy attacks, enduring harsh weather and difficult conditions.
The defense of the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles” was remarkable and legendary.
On December 26, the counter-offensive of armored divisions from the US 3rd Army, commanded by General George S. Patton, ended the siege.
The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German offensive on the Western Front. In Bastogne, the surrounded US forces held out until reinforcements arrived. This diorama highlights their courage, strategy, and resilience.
