"Avatar" is an epic science fiction film directed by James Cameron in 2009. It became one of the highest-grossing films of all time and received numerous nominations and awards, including three Oscars.

The story is set in the future, where humans have exhausted Earth's natural resources and discovered a habitable moon called Pandora. The humans seek to exploit Pandora's resources, in particular unobtanium, a rare and precious mineral. To do this, they use avatars, genetically modified bodies of the indigenous Na'vi race, to explore and negotiate with the natives. However, the Na'vi resist the human invasion, leading to a war between the two species.

"Avatar" is known for its innovative motion capture technology, stunning visual effects and complex, immersive fictional world. It was one of the first films to revive the fashion for stereoscopic 3D projection. The film has also inspired a number of spin-off products, including toys, video games, comic books and novels.

A sequel entitled "Avatar 2" was also released in 2022, with James Cameron returning to direct. Although the film did not have the same impact as its predecessor, it in turn received numerous awards, making the franchise one of the most profitable in Hollywood cinema.
