Historical Description

The P-51 Mustang, designed by North American Aviation, is one of the most iconic fighters of World War II. Initially developed for the Royal Air Force, it quickly became a major asset of the American air forces.
While its contribution on the European front is widely documented – notably in the escort of B-17 "Flying Fortress" bombers over the Reich – the Mustang also played a vital role in the Asian theater, less well-known but equally strategic.
In the CBI (China-Burma-India) region, the missions were very different. Rather than strategic strikes, the Mustangs were used for tactical operations: ground support, reconnaissance, convoy attacks, and local defense. Their autonomy, speed, and firepower allowed them to strike without escort, even in hostile terrain.
