Fredrik, King of Brandengrad and de facto ruler of all Riismark, found himself abandoned by his Conclave peers and his lands besieged on all fronts. To secure at least one front, he acknowledged and honored his family's debt to his enemy: the Alchemist of the Tower of Nepenthe. But after driving back the Nords with the help of the Orders, the Order of the Sword refused to relinquish control of the reclaimed lands. Abandoned by the Heartlands, he knows that honoring his debt to the Alchemist for another year would cripple his nation, already struggling to find resources. So Fredrik prepares for the Alchemist to demand payment once again. For he knows this well:
