What is the F4F WILDCAT?

The Grumman F4F Wildcat is an American embarked fighter aircraft that saw service with the US Navy and Marine Corps and British Naval Aviation during World War II.
Although dominated in pure performance by its main opponent, the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero, the Wildcat's ruggedness, effective armour and use of appropriate tactics enabled the Allied forces to maintain the initiative during the campaigns of 1942. Many F4F pilots achieved a high number of victories, the record being held by Marine Corps Major Joe Foss with 28 victories in less than three months during the Guadalcanal campaign.
