USS Enterprise CV-6 1/200
The "Big E" USS ENTERPRISE was the second aircraft carrier of the Yorktown class. Construction began in 1934 and the official launch took place in 1936. She entered service in 1938.
ENTERPRISE narrowly escaped the unannounced Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 due to stormy weather. Without further ado, ENTERPRISE was immediately assigned to fight the Japanese.
The "Big E" provided cover for Doolittle's raid on mainland Japan and participated in the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Philippines, Leyte Gulf, and provided air support during the Guadalcanal campaign, Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, Palau, Iwo Jima and Ryukyu. For a long time, the "Big E" fought Japan until other carriers came into service.
After World War II, the "Big E" participated in Operation Magic Carpet and brought American troops back to the United States. Decommissioned in 1947, the ENTERPRISE was dismantled in 1958, but the legend of the "EnterpriseversusJapan" lives on.
